The students of FRC Team 9549, The Mechadogs, at Covert High School are proud to share the successful completion of their latest community project — building a Toddler Mobility Trainer in partnership with MakeGood Mobility.

This project began when team members noticed the challenges some students face with mobility at school. Inspired to take action, the Mechadogs wanted to use their STEM skills to help make everyday life a little easier and more inclusive for children with mobility needs.

With financial support from Holtec Palisades, the team was able to bring this idea to life. Holtec’s engineering team generously provided all the funding needed, showing how schools and community partners can work together to make a meaningful difference.

Working with MakeGood Mobility, an organization that provides affordable, adaptive mobility devices for kids with disabilities, the Mechadogs built a Toddler Mobility Trainer that will help a young child gain more independence. The project required over 250 hours of 3D printing and used 12 kilograms of filament! Along the way, students learned about different 3D printing materials, exploring their strengths and weaknesses while applying the engineering design process to ensure the device was safe and functional.

While the Mechadogs are best known for their robotics competitions, projects like this one show what robotics is really about — teamwork, problem-solving, and using technology to make life better for others.

The team is very proud of this accomplishment and grateful for the support of Covert Public Schools, Holtec Palisades, and MakeGood Mobility. The Mechadogs look forward to continuing to use their engineering skills to give back to the community and inspire others through STEM.
